Our story
What began as an overlooked building in Coxhoe became a year-long family project and the home our wellness community had been waiting for.

Seeing the potential
When we found our building in Coxhoe, it was a space with a colourful past – having served the local community as everything from a police station to a dental surgery. While it was in desperate need of a new lease of life, we saw the potential to create something special.
What followed was a year of blood, sweat, occasional swears and tears in true family collaboration. While I focused on the clinical and holistic vision, my husband and his business, AB Home Improvements, worked tirelessly to strip the building back to its original bones and uncover some beautiful features.
The space
I established my private practice over five years ago, to allow me to provide the bespoke, high quality care that I am so passionate about. As my practice grew, so did my mission to make support more accessible to the wider community.
Working as an independent practitioner can feel isolating at times. Over the years, I moved between various rental spaces. I was searching for an environment that truly understood the needs of a diverse wellness community, and consistently came up short. Some rooms felt cold and clinical. Others lacked the privacy, the upkeep, or the warmth that therapeutic work genuinely requires.
I knew what I was looking for. A space that felt safe and professional, but also calm and welcoming. Somewhere with a relaxed, holistic feel that reflected the breadth of work happening within it.
I envisioned somewhere that talking therapies, physical treatments, and holistic practices could naturally coexist.
A place where you wouldn’t simply be renting a room, but joining a building full of like-minded professionals—a real community, with a shared sense of purpose.
When I couldn’t find that space, I decided to create it.

A year of restoration
A complete strip-back followed by professional replastering and rewiring.
A new heating system, premium flooring, security system and CCTV.
Every window, door and lick of paint was chosen to bridge the building’s historic character with the professional, high-standard environment we had spent years searching for.
How it works
Durham Wellness Space is an environment tailored to the needs of the modern practitioner and client. The space is open by appointment only, Monday to Saturday, 8.00am to 8.00pm.
The space is not staffed for walk-ins and our practitioners will be in sessions with clients throughout the day, therefore we will be unable to answer the door without you having a prearranged appointment.
We provide high standards of mental health and wellness services within a shared professional environment. Practitioners are self-employed and hire rooms within the building.
Before bookings are confirmed, all practitioners are required to share evidence of relevant professional qualifications and certifications, active registrations with their respective professional governing bodies and valid, relevant insurance.
